Turners Shipping has established an Excise Division and appointed Gregory Marks as National Excise Manager.

A former National Specialist at SARS, Gregory will head the new division which provides specialist services to clients in the Excise Duties and Levies arena.

“Gregory brings a wealth of experience and an in-depth knowledge of the relevant industries and legislation,” says Blain Kondiah, Managing Director of Turners Shipping. “Anyone in the business will tell you understanding and calculating Excise Duties is challenging at the best of times, so having someone of Gregory’s calibre heading the team gives us confidence in the future growth of this division.”

The new Division and its services were introduced to Turners’ petroleum clients at two workshops hosted in Johannesburg and Cape Town. “The response has been overwhelmingly positive,” says Gregory Marks.

“Excise isn’t limited to petroleum products; alcohol, tobacco and other products are also subject to excise duties and ever-growing Environmental and other levies such as the Health Promotion Levy.”

The new division will provide Consultancy and Advisory services, Supply chain legislative compliance, Account Maintenance, Compliance Assessments and Audits, and Training.

“We look forward to developing innovative solutions aligned to our Clearing and Forwarding Services to further support our clients. Our web-based interfaces for Excise Accounting and Refund Claims, and real-time Stock Inventory Management will ensure ease of compliance with relevant legislation for our clients in an environment of an ever-changing legislative and economic landscape” said the new Excise Manager.
